Well as promised .. MORE SPONGE SCIENCE !!
7 months now.
ok.. 1st i'll give some new info in Haliclona sp.
my blue sponge, i regret to inform, is dieng...i have narrowed its cause to 2 things...sand dust from my tank maintance a few months back has clogged its feeding chambers & its starving....OR it has lost its Cytotoxicity properites & is no longer able to prevent
algae growth on its surface, brown algae IS present on the sponge, but the frag, wich was raised in the new system, is not having the same effect, but is not growing either..
now on with some new findings..
i picked up a Orange fan sponge today..after a while of going thru science records i found what i belive is the exact species wich grows in many different forms..
Phakellia flabellata originates from the great barrier reef & contains powerful cytotoxic properites..if im not mistaken..its used to prevent
algea growth as far as science knows & is one of the main reasons the sponge has such beautiful color.
