Ring Around The Leather

I've had this Yellow Toadstool since Jan. 07. It has not shown any growth and cycles very often between being fully closed, shrunk and limp to erect with open polips. Several months ago it developed this ring at the base. It's in a 58g mid tank under 384W VHO. And it gets good flow. It also seems to be open more at night then during the day, is that usual? Sugestions welcome.

I have one with a ring also but its growing fine. Its open all day and closed at night. Sorry I could be more help.
