If you're comfortable with doing it, go for it. (I've just started fragging anthelia and yellow polyps so I don't have much experience.)

The orange and the blue/green floridae in the OP finally split earlier this year (along with every other mushroom in the tank) so I was saved the stress of performing the operation.

The orange grew to about 7 " across before splitting and now there are two about 4" (and it looks like more are on the way). The blue/green split into 3 but none of them are more than 2".

The blue/green is higher than the orange so I wonder if light intensity/ ric color has anything to do with that. Comments, anyone?

I cut my rics periodically with good success. The biggest issue is trying to mount them to a rock or shell after cutting.

I usually cut the edges which are not attached to any rock (the skirt, not the foot). Some grow faster than others.

Also,
I do not add anything to them when I cut them (dips, etc.)

the one in the picture i posted, i think i got it close to 16 months ago... ( i can't believe its been that long! but i wish i wrote it down somewhere) it was about 1/2 dollar size then, its almost 3" across now.... is this normal growth rate, slow or exceptionally slow?

i have not snipped it yet... i'm a big baby when it comes to this stuff the first time... i have split regular shrooms before, but this ric is different, compared to shrooms i had it seems so slow growing and i have managed to keep it alive so i'd hate to kill it! yanno.

also... when, if i do snip it, will i be able to go right through the middle between the mouths or should i only go part way through the edges?

Edit:

actually, i take the 'three inch across' measurement back. its really happy today, i stuck a ruler right on it and its a hair over 4".

I do not even consider the mouth(s). It will grow another mouth. I cut an orange florida ric into about 6 pieces without issue.

dumb question alert:

how do you know by looking if it is a yuma, florida or other? i'm not sure if all the pics i have seen are accurately labeled. i don't recall if mine came with a name, i may have been under the impression it was a yuma... (more reasons i should have writen it down!) i think the price list just said "purple-blue ricordea" a nice price+ employee discount and i took it.

every pic in this thread is of floridas...besides my pink ones, which are yumas.

on another topic...Ive finally figured out how to get my pink yumas to make babies. Ive got two babies off the one that wouldnt grow in the last month.

I honestly dont know how to scientifically explain how to tell them apart....but they are quite different.....yumas have much more going on in the bubbles than floridas. Floridas are pretty much just the same size "bubbles" everywhere. yumas are way larger overall as well as dont seem to throw out multiple mouths like floridas do

anyway...first pic both are yumas(different).......second pica florida...third pic a different kind fo yuma than either of the first two.

Fly Guy,
Your purple & Green looks like a Yuma.

Green & Purple Yuma

Florida & Yuma (Yuma is at the top left corner; 3 variations of Florida Orange)

Orange Florida

Wow,that pink is amazing.
I've got blues, oranges, greens and they have grown quite alot, although alot slower than other types of mushroom. They only ever seem to get to about 1-2 inches across and then split.
