reef tank problems


the nitrate levels r really high i just moved the 1 year established tank 3 days ago the outher test r fine but nitrate is reading in the 80 ppm range but all the fish and corrals look fine what shale i do to lower shale i go ahead and do a water change i have added treatment changed filters added new media.

Welcome to TRT! you have filters?That's part of your problem.Get rid of them,your Live Rock is your filter.What type of skimmer are you using?I would do a couple big Water Changes.

Assuming you moved the sand bed too that is the source of the nitrates...
If you have a skimmer crank it up if not do 20g WC every other day for a few days...
.
@80ppm the fish should be OK I would worry about the corals but being softies they will probally be ok. When I use to keep softies I found they perfered and thrived in water with nitrates on the 30-40 range

i have this one substance i add to my tank that prevents long term nitrate build up it is called super water conditioner
