Pulsing xenia crash.

My xenia was spreading and looking mighty fine but i added activated carbon into a powerhead filter last week and my xenia has completely crash and died.I'm assuming this was the cause but no other corals seem affected.
Anyone got any ideas or had a similar experience? All my water tests are good.

carbon cleans water and xenia like the water a little dirty.I use to frag mine every week and then I bought a better skimmer and it all died.

Guess it's not the carbon then.
Been looking and the pulsing xenia has stopped pulsing. Also the polyps look like they've been burnt. The red sea xenia looks beyond recovery.
A friend has suggested a chemical release from another coral. The only newcomer i've put in there in the last few weeks is a purple brush gorgonian.

just wait it out!!! If it's not turned into slime it's still alive mine shrivle up all the time and come back in a few days. I have a four patches and one is doing that right now. THEY ALWAYS COME BACK FOR ME!!
But if they do start to disinagrate get them out asap before they contaminate yor whole tank! Good Luck!

I think i've solved the problem.
My nitrates were trace as i'm very cautious with feeding but i've started feeding my suncoral and 2 clowns more and my nitrates have risen to 20.This has resulted in both my xenias having a new lease of life and also my zoas look much better.

good sluething! Just another note: xenia needs certain trace elements to be present in the water. So I run carbon and have a very powerful skimmer and my xenia are just fine I think because I add trace elements to the trank weekly.. just a tiny tiny bit (about 1/2 of what the bottle says to add)... I use Kent Coral-Vite (more exotic trace element replenishment) and Kent Essential Elements (common trace element replenishment).. I only put like 10 or so drops in each week... just enough to keep some in the water.. also, rumor has it xenia actually absorbs phosphates and releases amonia into the water also.. in small amounts obviously, but just something to note..

adding trace elements weekly??? If you do a weekly water change of 10% you dont need to add trace elements because its in the salt. why pay and add more then you have to?
