It's hanging in there but has never really opened any of it's polyps, I have checked later at night after the lights have gone out, I have tried moving it a couple of different spots the last one is a little more in the light but doesn't really stand up nice...

Ok, breaking news.... well maybe not headline news but here is an update. I have tried moving it at least 5 different spots within the display tank and nothing, hasn't opened at all. Well today I decided to move it up into the Refugium which is lit the opposite of the main tank. It has really good pods, rock rubble, DSB and macro algae growing. Well I placed it in the tank about 3 hours ago, and I just checked on it and it is opening up, good polyp ext..
Will check it in the morning since the lights just came on and again tomorrow night and let you know how it goes, but I might have found a new place for my chili....

Updated pic's showing extension/expansion, these were taken tonight so it is still liking the move to the refugium. I had to move it a little and clean the glass so I could get better pictures.

alright now its looking alive !
make sure theres alot of flow in there..almost SPS type flow..without it, the polyps will not fully expand..
one question. does your Refugium have MH lighting ?

Thanks, decent flow, can look at adding a powerhead for more movement. Lighting is just a standard florescent.

yep, i thought that might have flouresent lighting..this supports my theory even more..i belive after seeing many chili corals in MH tanks online, & a few locally. including trying MH on a tank with my chili coral..that the radiation transmitted by MH lights is indeed Toxic to this coral, for whatever reason i dont know..but i have NEVER seen a chili expand in a MH tank, even if the coral was hidden from the light or not.

Not sure what info your looking for on the chilli so I'll give you the history
I received the chilli coral frag from Chuck probably a year ago. He has the parent colony for around 3-4 years I'd guess. It started out in his acro tank were I believe that the coral didn't get fed directly. He fed the tank a lot of nori mysis shrimp to my knowledge.
Right now its in my 360 tank and it gets light from a 250 xm10k bulb for 4 hours a day. It usually only opens at night but I have seen it open during the period were my t-5 light is the only light on.
I feed a good amount of food to my tank. Mainly Reef mariculture food. I personally haven't tried dt's since I went to nonphoto corals, but after seeing video of dendros sort of tasting the dt's then spiting it back out I think I'll stick with whats working. I also feed a homemade blend of mussles and oysters and prawn eggs every other day or so.

different angle shot, showing the need for the mh lighting. Its nice that the goniporas and avelaporas do so well with just 4 hours of intense lighting.
Sorry about the blurry pic
