Is this normal with monti frag
Neighbor gave me a monticap frag.
I am current in the process of waiting for my new lighting ( 4x65w48" ) hopefully on the way and delivered by wednesday.
I placed it up high in the tank as close to the lights as i could , High flow area with powerheads from both sides of the tank aimed right at it.
Problem/Concern :
It keeps leaning over on to the rocks around it , actually laying down on the rocks would be a better desription.
Every few days i go in and move him so he it upright again but within 4-5 hours it is laying down again.
Is this just part of the growing process ?

Its not a monticap. It actually looks like maybe a toadstool leather or a leather of some kind......hard to tell.
It defintely doesnt look happy.
I also looks as though in that second pic that algae is maybe growing on it......thats not a good thing. I would try to give it a little more flow and see what happens
ps----I LOVE your signature : )

when the neighbor gets home I will shoot a pic of the ones this came from . That should help out a lot. In his tank they look like tan/creme colored plates. about 4-5" in size oval to circle. I have gotten a lot more flow on it and the alge signs of disappoeared. Wish my new lighting would hurry up and get here.

I dont think that continually propping him up is going to do anything but hurt it.......it needs soemthing more than that becasue it really is almost in too bad of shape to ID.
It looks like a toadstool more than anything to me, but i wouldnt bet on it, and it isnt even close to sticking any polyps out to allow for any nutrition.
personally i would place it in a high or at least higher flow area to start to see if you can get any kind of a response out of it.....
it might need less flow, but i doubt it.............it very well just might need more light and it sounds as if thats on the way
good luck with it

YUP !!! Mah bad didnt post , been glued to the tank. Amazing what double the light can bring out in details !!
It looks to be doing better actually now with the stronger lighting and the xenia is streched out supper long and the pyops are HUGE and with long feelers out. Guess they really like there new sun !
Think i am going to take on splitting the pylop colony tonight so they are more spread out. About 50 of them in a 6x3 area.
