clavularia are star polyps. Is it possible that piece was not exposed to light for any period of time? It just looks kind of washed out

Yeah, I know. (not with rude tone. ). I have a piece that looks just like it. It looks like the pic was taken with a flash or something, making it looked washed out. Here's mine with the polyps extended: (sorry it's a crappy pic)

Thanks for the welcome. Can't believe I haven't been to this forum much. Lots of activity here, it seems.

Since clavularia mats, it just takes the shape of whatever it's on. I'd bet there's a piece of branch rock in there or maybe that's the shape it likes when there's nothing to grow on.

yes its not a great shot...its with a little auto digicam...and the flash did go off...but the color is not that far off. Its just a light pink color...and that pic is with the polyps extended. When the polyps are in it looks like an old used cigaraette butt (sort of..). I'm guessing it will grow...

Which reminds me of the other question I originally asked...should it be anchored in some way or just let it lie there on the bottom of the tank? Every so often I have to go in and roll it back over so the nubs point up in case the polys want to come out and play....

I also have some growing on another rock that grow like kelli's. I had to remove it and it sort of peeled off.
You can put it wherever you want, although I would recommend just wedging it into a rock. It will attach quickly.
