are all you parameters a bit better now?
from the pictures and what you had said. i take it the white stringy stuff was what was left after touching the mushroom?

some newer pictures would be good.( if possible) . since the stuff that was growing towards and on to the mushrooms was pretty aggressive . i am leaning towards ( belive it or not) sponge. i have had and seen sponge ( many many types out there!) that are very bad and can cover and kill corals and LR pretty fast, one type almost looks like mold once if starts to cover the LR

so is sponge a bacteria or something.. im so new at this i have no clue

also..how do i place a mushroom back on the rock after i cut it?

no sponge, is an animal. it is a filter feeder , some are very aggessive and will cover and take over anythignin its way. i have a piece of LR that has a white sponge on it that i must scrape opnce in a while so it does not take over.
