i read this in some book of mine although try as i may i cant find which book said it. i thought that was a crackup and after i told my brother taht he went rubbing my zoos and almost killed them good thing i caught him haha.
soon as i can figure out which book said this ill post it.

some have a polytoxin that can actually kill you. I have been sick twice as a result of handling/fragging zoas without gloves. Bad headache and nausea.........i dont think it was the polytoxin from the symptoms i have read about, but something made me sick. Wear gloves and eye protection as they like to squirt when you stick em with a blade as well.

I too suffer the same hallucinations that Reefstock does on a regular basis.

If i understand it correctly many of them can actually carry that polytoxin...just not most of them do even within the same types. Zoas are just one of many things that can be harmful, frogspawn are another and just like anything, different people have different reactions to many things.

How old is your brother?? There are many things in our tanks that can hurt you...especially if ingested. They really just need kid proofed. I am in the middle of figuring out exactly how im going to do it as my 6 month old is getting very mobile all of a sudden. and i need to protect him most importantly and of course prevent him from being able to crash my tanks as well.

I have made and sold many mixed zoo rocks all with good results and feedback.

I had the same hallucination as Reefstock.

Oh, ya. Lots of zoa rocks (button polyps) come in with multiple multiple colors species genus. That is not to say they don't compete with each other they do. But you won't see anything like an acan devouring a favia.

When you say hairy and yellowish are you reffering to these?

If so I wouldn't suggest putting those on anything but their own rock in the sandbed somewhere that they can't spread out of control, because if your tank parameters are doing well they will... Those are similar to zoas but are actually Parazoanthus gracilis. Not sure if this is what you have, but just thought I would throw that out there.

IME, gennerally zoas that are similar in size do ok next to each other on the same rock. But zoas of different sizes, eventually the larger one will usually overtake the smaller ones.

Good luck with your zoa mixing though... you can make some really sweet looking combo rocks.

I don't believe paralysis is considered tripping... It wasn't when I was in collage anyhow.

I have thankfully never got worse than a numbing/itching in the hand. I am not sure what the full effect would be, but I don't think it is psychedelic.
