Lavender mushroom coral dying?
Hi,
I am new to reef keeping, my boyfriend and I got our first tank about 4 months ago. Everything is doing great with the exception of our mushroom coral. We only have 3 other corals, two different xenia and a yellow fiji leather. These all look terrific as well as all of our fish and inverts.
All of the water parameters are fine, PH stable, no ammonia or anything. We maintain a temp around 77.
When we first got the mushrooms they looked fantastic, but a few days after they were in the tank some of them started to wither and dye. There are a few big mushrooms and some tiny ones. The big ones are doing the worst but the smaller ones seem to look ok. I'm not sure if the mushrooms are ricordea, the lfs just said purple mushrooms but they have bumps like ricordea. I read that ricordea need more light so I moved them closer up in the tank but they don't look any better. I have T5 lighting total of 80 watts.
I don't add any iodine or anything to the tank, I know soft corals need it but I just figured we have enough becaues our shrimp molt a lot. We also have been putting ChemiPure elite into the filter, should I add just regular carbon?
I attached some pictures of the corals and the whole tank. When we first got the mushrooms they filled up the whole rock, now you can barley tell they are there. Does anyone know what might be wrong? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
