Is three weeks too soon to add zoas?
I have the opportunity to get some zoas but is it too soon?
I have a 28 gal nano cube tank with
- ~20lbs live cured rock
- ~20lbs dry sand mixed with seeded live sand
It's been ~3 weeks. I have no fish, just some snails. Water has been tested and is fine.
Should I add a fish instead to get the ball rolling? Would it be disaster to start the reef-life first?
I'd really prefer to wait on the fish....
Here's what I want in the tank:
- leathers, polyps, mushrooms
- 1 clown fish
- 1 watchman goby
- 1 pistol shrimp
- some crabs and such

If your levels appear fine it couldnt hurt to throw a fw polyps in there. dont go crazy or anything........but one small frag with a few cheap polyps would be ok

Yeah, really I suppose it'll be 4 weeks by the time I pick them up....
so if those are the only thing in my tank should I put any food in there for them? (since they won't be fed indirectly from fish and such)
I'd really like to wait another month or two before adding a fish...if I can control myself
Thanks guys!

you can try it, but my tank had perfect parms...then all of a sudden it spiked, & my original zoa colony went down hill, im still trying to get it back to good health

Wow! Do you know what happened? Was it just normal cycling?

If you have been watching your params and are confidant about where you are I don't see a problem...I've setup tanks with established rock and seen such a small cycle that I had hardy corals in the tank within days. It depends on where your LR came from and how much die off it has had.

Thanks for all the insight! The LR is established so I'm gonna go ahead and try it! I'll post an update for how it goes...off come the training wheels...lol...
I definitely caught the bug...I already want to do another 10 gal tank with no fish just soft corals and such...and it's only been three weeks with the first one!
