is this a flowerpot coral?

LFS called this coral a flowerpot. Is it? I have been looking online and the pics show something else. Long "stemmed" corals.

And... are there any special needs here? It was doing really well for a few months... but seems to be degrading. : (

They don't live very long in captivity.

more iron will help it live longer but it will eventually die. Next time don't buy a Gonipora buy a alveopora. They look almost identicle but instead of having 24 "pettals" on its branches it will have only 12. The alveopora will live just fine in a good aquarium.

Here is a thread that might help a little.

A flowerpot is considered an LPS in hobby-talk.

I HATE FLOWERPOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Theyre so pretty at the LFS, then when you get em home, theyre still ok for a month or so. Then they just start dying! Im drawn to flowy things like flowerpots, torches, and hammers. Personally, I wouldnt buy another flowerpot ever again.

I went to the LFS today, and for $50, they had a flowerpot the size of a larger Folgers coffee can. It was tough, but just knowing its going to die anyways, its hard to buy.

I wouldnt pull it now until its totally dead, or too ugly to do any good.Id avoid at all costs.

GREAT NEWS!! I have returned from my camping trip to find my fragile little friend in excellent condition. It had faded so much I almost removed it... but now it's almost back to to 100%!!

The only thing i changed was putting my lights on a timer... which is much more consistent than I am.

Yeeha!

i think Brent Cone is the only one that i know of that has been able to bring one back and have it grow. he is also the only one i know of that still is running a plenum system.
