Interesting...

I'm battling some red turf algae with turbo snails and emerald crabs (don't want to get a scopus tang in a 20 gallon). You can see the algae to the lower left of the polyps.

Look at the yellow polyps. It appears that they've taken some of the algae's color into their bases. I've seen condy 'nems do this but never anything else.

I would speed up the removal process by pulling as much off of the rocks as possible.

think it may be coincidental that it appears similar to the red algae next to it. I have seen that film before covering the stalks of polyps and it isnt healthy. I imagine it is an algae of sorts, not sure exactly but a soft bristled toothbrush or tweezers if it takes it to remove it is a good idea

It doesn't pull off without breaking into pieces and I've already learned my lesson about cutting it . I may have to tear the tank down and vinegarize the stuff.

Fly , does the film spread to other zoos? I can sacrifice that piece if necessary.

if it cant be pulled or scraped off with very minimal damage to the polyp, then my post is irrelevant to you and you have soemthing else there, that for all I know very well could be the polyp simply wicking up a color somehow as you said. I would deal with your algae as you have been and let it ride

I haven't tried to remove it from the polyps yet. I was talking about pulling the turf algae off the rock.

Just wanted to know if there's the chance of it spreading. I have no shortage of yellow polyps.
