hermit crab attacking coral

We have a fragment of Kenyan tree coral that has closed up due to the fact that a hermit crab has attached itself to it and has held on for almost 2 days. I tried to pull the hermit crab off and ended up picking up the coral and rock with it! I am afraid it is going to injure the coral what should I do?

Try prying open the hermit crabs claws and then if he does it again get rid of him

traditonal hermit crabs don't carry round frags. Can you get a pic of it. Has it tanked any other pieces of coral?

I had something similar in my tank but while the crab was messing with some Xenia, the Xenia attached itself to the crabs shell. It was kinda funny to see a crab with a pulsing Xenia on its shell walking around for a while.

My LFS had a turbo snail that sat on their forest of xenia once and its whole shell is covered in xenia now and it spread it all over the tank.

Portable xenia on a hermit, that sounds cool! We have (I believe) a striped hermit that decided he really liked the shell my kenya frag was in. Our tank has about 10-15 shells on the bottom, he chooses the one with a frag. Anyway he climbed in, sat in there for 2 days. I thought he would give up and bail but now he drags this thing around the tank! Good thing I don't like the kenya, don't know how I would get the hermit out. Any ideas? Learned good lesson, shells aren't good for frags when you have hermits!
