guess that's a way to frag a xenia

I've been waiting impatiently for my xenia to move off the rock it came on. I have tried everything, from putting rocks against the base, putting a shell amongst them, and they refuse to move off(I want to propogate them elsewhere in the tank LOL)

About a month ago I tried snipping some of them off, and they quickly shriveled into nothing and I couldn't find them, well, one of them popped up in a crevace of a rock and so I just did it again. LOL They shriveled up and floated away, i managed to manuever some of them into holes in rocks and now i wait and hope they take up there. . .I really want them to spread in my tank, I LIKE them a lot LOL(yeah,I know, I need my head examined)

I have seen heads pop off by themselves from time to time and float around until the hit a rock and get a foot hold. They then start growing from there, so hopefully you will start getting more of them like you want.

The other alternative, which should be much more effective, is to cut the mat where the stalk connects to the rock and peel it off the rock and move that piece where you want it. Or you can always break a piece of the rock off with the Zenia on it and move it around that way as well.

If you want a xenia to move, flip its rock over and place the new rock on top. It will move itself to the top to get back to the light. Thats a tidbit I learned from a local reefer that propogated xenia in a 20 gallon tank.

Mine grows like weeds....I give it a haircut every so often...just snip it off with scissors at the stalk...take the piece I cut and rubber band it to some rubble and in a day or two it's attached and growing...in about a week there are new heads starting to grow off what was left of the stalk too...may seem kinda drastic, but this stuff would take over if I didn't prune it every couple weeks.
