Has anyone ever heard of ricordea mushrooms growing "better" when they are on a rock vertically instead of laying flat?

I have to ricordia growing on the face of a rock vertically. I got them at different times but the first one that i got about 2 and 1/2 weeks ago has atleast doubled. and the more recent one acclimated rather quickly and is already starting to spred out. ill take some pics when i get home.
