Green Hairy Mushroom Foul Water???

I have a colony of about 8-12 Green Hairy Mushrooms. I decided that the rock they were on was to small becuse when my lights go on (Sunpod 150W x 2, 2 65W PC Actinic) they basically open up so large u cant even see the rock. I cut 2 off at the base as low as possible and it just starting stinking. I attatched them to a small rock and covered with mesh (fragin'). My room STINKS and it seems like the water stinks a little too. Its the same smell from the shrooms. I recenlty got a Reverse Sunset Montipora frag. Ive heard of dying mushrooms killing other corals. Im sure their not dead but will my other corals be ok???

Cutting off the heads and leaving em in the water is not good. The stems will eventually grow back more heads . The tops are causing the cloudiness in the water. They will most likely die. I'd get them out of there asap. If the shrooms didn't like the rock they were on, they would have moved to another rock. The fact that they are so large is a sign that they are happy and healthy. If you want to reduce them try pointing a power head at them and let the water pressure diminish them. If you want to frag em, simply cut them in half and move the free piece to the new location.

Make sure your running some carbon. And do a 20% water change. As long as they dont melt your ok. Not real sure on your other corals though. they are probably fine. Mushrooms are reallllly tuff to kill lol. Iv read a post around here of some one's buddy that put one in a blender and chopped it to tiny pieces and put it in the tank and they grew EVERYWHERE.
