How do I make the stalk longer so I can cut off the head. I just tried and it retracted and all i got was the rim

No i cant even see the stalk. The last time I tried to just cut the stalk it caved in and all i got was the rim. Need the stem longer. If i place it at the bottom of the tank will it get long at the top right now

cut right along the rock. If you leave a piece of the stalk it will grow back. Better yet, put it in the blender, chop it up, and see what happens.
