Hello again,
How long do shedding cycles last? My yellow hasn't opened fully in about a week now, I've seen a few polyps open, but not the full open I had earlier. I'm starting to get concerned. Water quality has never been better, and It is under MH Lighting. Flow rate should be good, the PH on the other side of the tank is aimed at the glass behind it, so it should be getting good reflected flow. Any thoughts? Still shedding?
thanks,
Chris

Probably I'd get concerned if it starts to get mushy or black Mine has stayed closed for more than a week and been OK

Well, This is just great. My Yellow toadstool is opening up now and is looking great, now my xenia hasn't opened in 3 days, but the frag in another part of the system (same water) was just fine. hopefully, it has just been having a bad day.

Ok, a question on fragging toadstools. I recently read a horror story where someone in a attempt to frag their YTS, nearly killed (or so they say) their tank. As they discribed it, They had the Idea to just split it down the middle, soon after it started to put out a massive amount of fluid that started to stress the other corals and fish. they said they removed (got rid) of the splits, and preformed a large WC as well as the skimmer went nuts putting out wet foam.
My question, should you only cut the lip area and never cut into the stalk? do you have a different tank for your frags that are not part of the main system? I want to start fragging my YTS, but after that story I've been hesitent to do so, as I waited quite a bit to be able to get it. Any hints or tips I didn't ask that you might think are important?
Thanks,
Chris

So what do you think, is it ready for me to take the knife to it?
Yes it is closed, it had just closed, but look at how ruffled it is. It's looking to me like I might be able to take a piece out of it without it being all that noticable.

Well, with this coral, I've learned to expect it to pout at least 2 days a week. Actually, I'm debating weither to cut it or simply wait a little longer. It looks like there is a section getting ready to split of on it's own (upper right hand side of the picture), of course having no first hand experiance with the natural split, I could be way off.

It could be splitting itself mine does all the time. One of the little folds/curls starts growing a stalk then it drops off
