its a slow process the bulbs lose specturm after 6 months...some corals can live for longer than others..depending on type & health...in my experiance my leather sheds more & corals take longer to expand..& no growth is made..when lights are fresh..corals are growing & doing fantastic..change light bulbs..& try to add more suns insted of actinic..youll notice a difference in growth & activity..& the paly's should bounce back..there really tough corals.

Headed over to the LFS to get some replacement bulbs last evening. I've noticed that some of the polyps do a little "Mummy" thing where they rise up off the liverock, as if trying to revive themselves. I'll let you know what happens.

The "Mummy" thing is still going on... although the polyps have "shed" what appears to be the outer layer of skin, and have reduced in size down to the fleshy base and a couple of sticks. They look better, but still no display of their heads.

if they continue shedding & not opening..i would take them out & buy a new colony..they can release deadly toxins to the tank wich can be harmful not only to the tank but to you as well..

Good News! I changed out the fluorescents with some new ones, and I've got at least one new polyp! (pix coming soon) The little colony has begun to "rise up" and seems to be responding to the light. Not to mention, the finger leather nearby has grown about triple in size over the few days with the new lights. If there was ever an endorsement for keeping your bulbs fresh, this is one!!!
