Colt dropped small piece
My colt dropoed a little piece off on it's own. It seems to be okay and it's not floating around but staying in one space. Is this normal? It would be cool if it is. I can't get a good picture with my camera so I will describe the piece. It's about 1.5 inches long and is still inflated but not open. Thanks for any input.

Yeah, it's pretty normal. Some folks said that it's a sign of stress; that it's dropping buds to find a more comfortable place to live and ensure propagation, but I don't really believe it. Mine did that all the time, and it lived in my tank for quite a long time (I ended up giving it away... though it was a kenya tree, which is pretty much the same thing).

I believe it is all part of the Colt and Kenya Tree Coral world domination plan.
Congratulations on the new "baby". I am sure you will be seeing a lot more of them in the future.

Thanks for the reply. It's good to know that it is something good. I will try to post a pic when it gets a little bigger. I am assuming that it will attach itself to a rock after some time, right?

It should, but what is it doing right now? Is it just floating around in the water column, or is it in the sand, or against a rock? They can actually foot almost anywhere.

I had one attach to a cerith snail. They're still cruising around the tank after about 9 months or more.

I beleive that it is asexual reproduction. My devil's hand did it once. It will grow out to a place that there is no support for the finger and it will drop it.
