anthellia
Well, I got a surprise yesterday. The guy at my LRS gave me a giant clump of caulerpa(which is going into the oscar's FW tank for silver dollar chow right after I get some chaeto...) and there were 2 little polyps of anthellia in the bag. Oops, after some acclimation shock it looks like it is doing good. Right now I just have it sitting on the bottom of the tank by itself. The light should be good, but how much flow should I have for it? And is there anything else I need to do to take care of it?

wow sounds like you got a nice deal!
once you get it to attach to some LR rubble or a shell, you will want to move it in to a nice lighted area adn ina med type flow if you can. Waht type of lighting do you have?

It's in pc lighting(65 watts), on a small chunk of LR that is sitting in the middle of the tank on the rock. It's in high flow, but only because I'd have to find another good spot that the rock would fit into, and that hasn't been easy... Looks like it is doing okay though. It's got at least 3 little heads on it now. I just hope that they attach the piece of rubble to the rock, I'm still afraid I'm gonna bump it loose one day

Mine is going to be growing like crazy too. Already has close to 10 polyps! They're still pretty small, but I've seen the way the parent colony takes over(he'd just cut back half of the colony the night before I got that one and as of late last week you could barely tell it had ever been cut :P )

you may want to consider putting it somewher that it will not be able to attatch to the LR (somewhere on the sandbed with no LR around would be ideal). if it starts attatching ... it will EVERYWHERE in no time. IMO, it is kind of like GSP, great to look at but needs to be kept in check or it will over take everything else. i had some growing on an acro colony and had to frag part of the colony to keep the anthelia at bay.

you CAN use superglue on anthelia to attatch it to a rock. just put a drop at every corner of the mat and leave it out of the water for a few minutes. works great and i do it all the time.

Can I do the GSP grass trick and glue it to the back of the tank to make a living background? It's already attached to the rock a bit, but it wouldn't be a huge deal to remove that bit.
Woo hoo. rearranged my tank so I can get a bit more stuff in there. I hope. . .

yes, you can use superglue (gel) on the underside of GSP's mat to stick it to the glass. just keep it out of direct flow for a few hours so the glue can "dry". and remember this ... if you drain the tank to move it to a new location ... you are going to have a pretty large amount of toxins and die off from the GSP being out of water for so long.
instead of glue i would recommend just leaning the rock onto the glass and let it adhear naturally. that way it wont fall off if you get to much flow on it to soon.

my anthellia's are under 125 watts, slow growth, but are healthy, medium to strong current. high light..they are photosynthetic no feeding required.but are considered difficult by most people in my area.

man, i grew anthelia like weeds under two 40 watt no bulbs in a 55 tank. this stuff is impossable to kill. i still pull it out by the handfulls.
this is a 30 gallon i got that had been overrun by it. careful where you place it and you will need to trim it often.

Wow that picture scares me, I am glad I didn't let that spread too much. Have you noticed it has a bit of sting too.
Chillisreasy: anthelias like xnias may prefer a higher nutrient load to flurish.
