What is this?

Please give me an idea of what this is so I can look it up and make sure I have it placed correctly in my tank... The base/sides are hard and sort of spiny feeling, the top expands when there is light, shrinks at night...

Many thanks,
Babs

It's a Scolymia species of "brain" coral. It has it's feeding tentacles out.

Many thanks! And I just read it's best kept in sand and I've got it in the rocks... It seems to be doing OK where I have it, should I move it down into the sand?

Thanks for the prompt reply...

The problem with having it in the rocks is that its tissue can get torn as it expands, if this happens, it could get infected and die. Also, they can expand alot, so there needs to be enough room around it for that. Mine expands to probably more than triple its size at times.
