open brian help......

i have had a really nice green open brain for about 6 months but have noticed that on one side the tissue was starting to recede about 3 weeks ago, but now i have noticed that it is getting worse. What can i do to save him? my water parameters are perfect, tank been set up for 2 years....i did have a problem a long time ago with a hammer coral wall where it started to recede its tissue and cuold never recover until all their was was its skeleton and i really dont want this to happen to my open brian. What to do to save it? i know that once it starts to recede usually it contunues and doesnt stop

What kind of lighting, flow and where in the tank do you have him?

My first thought is to shade him and give it some food

i have t5 lighting not quite sure about the watts anymore since it was a long time ago but when i purchased the lights i knew what i was doing on the wattage per gallon for lps..... very shallow tank about 13 inches high and 36 inches wide. For flow i have a maxi jet 1200 which is 295 gallns per hour, a koralia 1 which is rated at 400 gph but feels alot lot less. I also have an aqua c remora hang on skimmer which could be maybe about 200 g/h. oh and its a 30 gallon tank. He is located on the sand bed where he has been since i got him. When doing my test kits i have noticed that my nitrate was really high-about 40 ppm which could have been the initial problem?? Do you think i have too much flow for my tank? I have a few brians, plate coral, fungias, zooanthids, mushrooms, green star polyps and a frogspawn and a couple of anemones. Nitrates could have been the problem at first but what can i do to not lose him? it seems to recede a little bit of tissue every couple of days

oh yeah.. and i have been giving him food and he has been eating. It sucks because the parts that are healthy and not receeding look really healthy and plump. So you think i shuold shade him?
