New something growing, not sure what

Hey,

I just converted to salt water from my fresh water setup. Bought myself a 14g biocube, heater, etc.

My water paramaters are as follows:
Salanity-1.023
Temp-77.4
Ammonia- .5(just put live rock in my tank and am in the process of cycling it)
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 0

I think these paramaters are all good, but if you recommend something else let me know.

I purchased live sand and filled the bottom, let that sit in my tank for a few days to clear up the water. After the water cleared up I added about 13 pounds of Live rock.

The smallest piece of rock the same day after placing it in my tank started growing something, not exactly sure what it is. It has now been about a week and it has grown bigger.

To describe it, it reminds me of a flower. I can clearly see a 'bud' that looks almost like a mouth, it has lots of tenticles, to which are clear with white specs on them(the only reason you can see them) and there is a bulb on the end of it. Also it will pull back into it self if moving the rock, or placing anything next to it. I was told it was some type of algae by my LFS and that I should get rid of it.(see picture)

It is a species of Glass Anemone, they are invasive. If you are running a Reef you should get rid of it. Some people keep them in a FOWLR because they are pretty.

I run my gravity at .025-.026.

Kill it now while there's only one of them.

I had an easier solution, I just removed the rock it was growing on, it was a small piece that was maybe an inch by an inch. Figured this was just the easiest solution.

Thanks for the advice guys!

No it should not kill any Coral. For 20 you might have some luck with species control. I have had success with peppermint shrimp eating the smaller ones. But species control is a hit and miss IMO. Also I will use a little Lemon juice and inject them.

Brown its hard to say but probably your more typical aiptasia. Glass anemones are all from the family "Aptaisiidae" and I believe there are 7 species but all no good for the reef. But the good thing is most common methods will work for all.
