Just scored a KILLER deal on a chalice!
I know it is not the the greatest chalice on the planet, but it is about 4 inches by 4 inches and has close to 40 eyes, nice shade of blue anyways. I picked it up for, wait for it, $20!!!!
I have been getting some killer deals at a local petco once the corals start their downturn, they don't want to loose out. They had it listed as an open brain anyways!!! So, for $20, I figure I can't lose.
It does have a spot of recession on one corner, should I remove that part of the skeleton, or will it grow back over it? I only have one other Chalice frag, and it is healthy...
Thanks!
Don

Yeah, I will watch it over the next couple days and see what happens. If it stops receding, will it grow back over the affected area?
I will be taking a picture after it acclimates a little more and all of my lights are on. Right now I just have my T5's, I will wait for the radium and then take the pic. I picked up a purple fungia from them also for $5 that has fully recovered.

Yeah, Petco in Mishawaka. I saw that one and almost picked it up. I couldn't pass up a chalice though! If you go in at the right time, you can get some killer deals, I just won't let their water touch mine I am finally at 0 NO3 and 0 PO4. Dead Zero, dosing bacteria is REALLY working!

Here is a pic, the colors from my phone are horrible, and I don't feel like breaking out the D SLR right now It has blue and green striations.
Pretty decent looking! You can see the recession in the back.

Great score. Looks like plenty of healthy tissue available for fragging if need be.

why are chalices so expnsive the ones i've seen are well above $60 most are in the hundreds. Is it because they are hard to find/rare?

I think it is just because they are the current hot button, along with Acans. But they are both beautiful. I am a huge fan of most anything colorful. Whether that is SPS, LPS, Zoa, I don't care. I just like colorful things and they all seem to thrive in my tank.
I am going to grow this chalice out a little bit, then frag it, then grow the frags and frag them for sale. My ultimate goal is to buy frags, grow it big enough to frag, then pull a frag off and put it in my display, and then never touch the display coral again. That way I am only fragging from my frag tank and my display is left alone.

Not enough people around me with stuff I want That and I have a limited amount of space! There is only one guy locally that I will trade with as I trust his corals. Other than that, I buy online and sell what I can. It all works out and I hope to be making money soon
