getting a pagoda frag:
What should I do with it? Lol, stupid question I know. But I'm being shipped a 2" frag(I mailed the ebayer to see if it is attached or not) soon. I just wonder about it. I know it needs to have good enough flow that nothing like sand or food will stay on it. And it needs to go towards the bottom, right? Or should I put it on the rocks? Also, if it is not attached, should I attach it to something, or leave it loose(afraid it'd blow in my tank if it was loose though) `I figure I have a flat piece of rock I could put it on, if that is the best idea. Also, sorta and sorta not related. If a powerhead is well above the sand line, could I take the prefilter off of it, or would I have to worry about my snails getting into it somehow?

mine liked good lighting and moderate flow. this is a coral that it is best to simply put in a spot and see if it likes it... if not then move it.

How long should I wait to see if it likes it? A couple of days to a week? I'm guessing it would be the same as anything else. Good polyp extention+feeding=happy coral. Right?
Did I mention that it's pink?

Cool. Also, if it isn't attached, should I glue it to a rock? Or do the softie fishnet thing? I've got a flat piece of rock on the bottom of the tank that I've had for a while that isn't doing anything, and I figure that with that I could move it if I needed to without worrying about current blowing around.

Mine is on a skeletin and a larger piece I'm not sure how it would be rec'd as a frag I think the best bet would be to post a pic when you get it and we can go from there

placement will vary by the corals preferance. i have one on the bottom with moderate flow to the side of the MH light, and one on top of the rock directly under MH's. the one on top is yellow/green and the bottom one in purple/pink. i am thinking that itr will come as a frag on a piece of the original colony's skeleton and the skeleton will grow with the frag. that is why LPS and SPS use up so much of the tanks calcium, because the skeleton grows too. kinda like our bones ... milk (calcium) = strong growing bones (skeleton). hope this helps some.
you can take a dremel (keeping the coral wet) or wet tile saw and frag these corals. you need a power tool to cut through the skeleton.

I use bone cutters all the time to frag. if you have the right size they work great and give you a clean cut. glue the base of the pagoda to something to help secure it. epoxy or superglue gel will both work depending on the size
