Flowerpot Swelled!!!

I noticed my flowerpot swelled up the other day. REALLY BAD! it was swollen like a balloon and the polyps were just small outlines on the swollen flesh. It stayed this way for about 2 minutes then the swelling rapidly died down, some places quicker than others. this was a couple of days ago, now it seems to be fine, but maybe someone can tell me what caused this. There was no fluctuation in salinity, temp. ,chemistry, etc. And i have never seen this before, i was afraid he was going to burst. It was very disturbing.

It is a common occurrence and it seems to happen more often when the coral is relatively new. Also, sometimes it happens when the coral tastes something strange in the water (hand in tank etc..).
