It looks like a flower/rock anemone, but you said it has a skeleton, correct? Is it round when its open?

It's a flower anemone. Some people call it a rock anemone. They are very common down in the Florida keys. The good news is that they are very hard to kill. The bad news is that they have a very powerful sting and they can multiply. Sometimes faster than you want them to. They are beautiful though. They will also eat anything you throw at it.

This is another Elegance that is improving. You can see how the tentacles are getting longer in the second pic. I'm sorry its such a bad pic, its from my cell phone. I will try to take new pics this weekend.

Wow! Not too shabby!
Can you give us a time line on this specimen's history?

Very nice pictures. I have a major recommendation that you do not add any other elegance to the tank. most elegance corals now don't live long and most can kill others by spreading the pathogen that is killing them.

I've had him for about 8 months. It was bleached when I got it. It was about twice the size it is in the pic though. I had it under a 250W 10K MH. For about the first month or two it continued to go downhill. Bleaching even more and it withdrew completely into its skeleton. I changed the bulb to a 14K and moved the coral away from the light. The pics were taken over a perion of about 6 months under the 14K light. It is regaining its algae and expanding more. This has been very very slow. Why did you ask? Do you have an Elegance thats in trouble?

To Late. I have 8 in the same tank. They were all very ill at one point, but they are all getting much better now.
I'm not sure how much of the pathogen theory I believe.

I had one for several ears untill thewinter of 202, when I lost most of the stff in a power outage that lasted for 6 days here (before the current generator confiuration). I attempted 3 more specimens, nonof which made it, so I have not attempted them since. Julian Sprung has had some success using lower level bluer lights and more organic, lagoonal settings, I believe this may be part of the solution as well.

here is my elegance ... it hates to be in direct MH lighting (250w 10K XM's also), but LOVES it being in between 2 of the bulbs on the bottom of the tank with moderate flow and moderate light. the pic does no justice for the coral though. it is, when completely opened, about 12"-15" around !!

This is a pic on one of mine from about 15 years ago. It too grew into a monster. It would touch the front and back of a standard 55gl tank at the same time. I wish I still had him. Sorry the quality is bad. Its a pic of a 35mm photo. We didn't have digital cameras back then.

what are you doing to nurse them back ?? it would be a nice thing to know, in case i ever notice things going downhill.
