Very high for a temporary coral=more than 90% of the elegances imported in the last few years have died from some type of illness in the first few months to a year. It's also contagious so if you have an older healthy one you are risking that one by adding a new one.

The only safe elegance to buy is one that you know has been kept in another reefers tank for over a year at least.

That's actually about right, depending on size. If you're going to go with one try to find the species with the longer tentacles. They seem to ship better. Definately don't buy one that has just come in. Make sure the store has had it for a week or two (at least).

Have you looked at this thread?

Amazing looking corals; but they usually don't last long.

I rescued one from a rubble crate ($2) when I first got into SW a few years ago =). I'm not sure how long it was in that crate and didn't know what it was until I did some research. I debated getting rid of it because of all the uncertainty but decided to keep it and see how it did; it's still doing great. It's even gone through a move from CA to AZ last summer.

The corals are as hardy as ever. The problem is there is something, probably a bacteria or virus that is all over the industry. It just takes one dip from one that is infected to transfer it to a whole system. If you do have a healthy one, never get another!

Hi i am from the UK and would love a elegance coral ! we cannot buy them in the UK as they are on cities. There is the odd one that turns up when someone in the trade gives up, and they generally sell over here for about £100-£150 . They really arev stunning corals.

I haven't looked into it, but as I understand the proccess, all animals have to be held for 7 days in customs. They wouldn't make it.

Sometimes the get snuck into an order here as well. I haven't seen one last long though.
