Duncan Coral - problem?

For the last several weeks my duncan coral's tentacle have been long and "stringy", whereas when I first got it it grew two new heads almost immediately and seemed much fuller.

I tried relocating it tonight. What light and flow have people found works for these guys?

I thought they were similar in care to a sun coral ?

I'd try mysis shrimp a few times a week

well ****, that might explain it. He gets a happy meal tomorrow! I feel like a dolt for not figuring this out, as when I did feed him he collapsed on it very much like an anemone.

Well the feeding went well, but 3 days later no real change in appearance. I have him high up on my solaris-lit 180. Do they like less light?

I never feed mine and its done fine and split from one head to 5 in a few months. I'm sure feeding is beneficial just stating they can be kept without it as they are photosynthetic. Moderate light and moderate flow.

they are very agressive eaters, so I figured thats what it needed. I guess i'll have to try less light.

I have mine at the bottom of my tank under a 400 watt 20K. The one that is in more flow has longer & stringer tentacles. I do not target feed mine & they are growing fine.

You'd be hard pressed to kill a duncan. Those are some of the hardiest corals (LPS) out there, fastest growing and interesting to keep. They are related to suncorals but BETTER! They're photosynthetic and don't really require target feeding.

I found that light to med. flow and moderate light works best.

i have one on the bottom of my 90 with 250 watt mh. they like medium flow (just enough so its not throwing the tenticals around) and medium to high light.

That's really neat that they are fast growing. I didn't know that. I need to pick up a few heads soon. They are awesome looking.

My 1 head frag has become a 5 head frag in less than 2 months. They definitely grow fast... I feed a few times a week BTW.
