BRAIN FRAG Procedures

***disclaimer****
I am by no means a fraggin' pro! So take these as general instructions. However, I had great luck w/ the following tools and procedures, and nobody including my self was hurt and all corals are doing great!

Tools: Bucket w/ some tank water, dremel w/ 3" cutoff wheel, screwdriver, and a Brain coral !

The brain started off as about a 7" round specimen!

I removed him from the tank and decided somewhat how I wanted to frag him! I made the first cut as deep as possible w/ the cut off wheel, but not go all the way through. I would have been better off w/ a bigger wheel but oh well! You can see the first cut here:

I would give him a little dunk & swirl in the bucket of tank water to rinse off the cutoff dust!

I then took the screw driver and tried to "crack" the two halves. Needless to say the cut wasn't deep enough....hence the little frag I eneded up with as he cracked off in this step. Therefor since my cutoff wheel wasn't any bigger to allow a deeper cut, I flipped him over and attempted to cut on the other side as well, working a little at a time w. occasional dunk & swirls until it would crack in half!

And know I have four frags and all appear happy! The edges that were cut all seem very good w/ no dead tissue or heads.

Have you done this before? How fast do the frags usually grow?

My first ever fraggin.

but they will grow like any other coral. Speed willdepend on light, flow, feedings, and water params. If you want max growth, target feed and be sure plenty of light! I usually never target feed have plenty of light and have slow/moderate growth.

Not the best answer, but hope it makes sense.

I had it. But the dremel or rotozip's are like $50.
