What more can i dose

Thats my question, i hear about second set of dosing pump, what are you dosing, what are the things you can supplement besides the regular Calcium, MG, and ALK/DKH. I got an open slot just for that but unsure as to what to use it for. So what do you dose , WHY, and results

Kalkwasser as part of your ATO. It allows you to reduce the amount of solutions you are using as part of your 2 part regimen. Also, the use of 2 part has a negative side effect if water changes are not kept up with.

Well i'm gone for 45 days at a time for my job and come back only after those 45 days. So how would that work, my water changes will be at 45 days intervals. I'm not really following what your saying can you elaborate thanks. New to SPS demands LOL.

Long term use of 2 part solution can turn the water from a brine solution to a saline solution due to the chemical makeup of the 2 part additives. 2 part uses sodium hydroxide and calcium chloride as it's chemical base for the additives and as the additives are added to the tank, they break down and form calcium hydroxide and sodium chloride. Sodium chloride is as we all know is salt. This can cause a skewing of your salinity in the short term, with the long term effects having the tank go saline instead of brine. The less you use of the 2 part for your tank and more you can replace with Kalk, the longer this will take and the better youa re. A decent sized waterchange when you arrive home from your job should help offset this change... hope that helps...

Kalkwasser (also known as pickling lime) can be mixed in to your auto top-off water so that it is added in small quantities as you maintain your water level. If you have only a few sps or they are small it can greatly reduce or even eliminate the need to add two part solutions by maintaining the calc and alk levels by itself.

I think your asking for ttouble trying to keep SPS with 45 days between maintenance. SPS require a fair amount of husbandry diligence. thing can go really bad in 45 days.

Ca Rx are pretty stable but without a babysitter I would not consider dosing kalk or any other 2 part. It just takes a lot of time and diligence to get the dosing amounts dialed in.

with 45 days between maintained I would think only soft corals would be kept happy.

Just my $.02

Well with the GHL controller and the dosing pump i'm told its possible, i'm not trying to win an award for best tank here i just want one, my 6 cents. Besides i had a tank of softies for 2 years that did pretty well with this regime. Not the best i know, but it worked.
