What is up with THIS???

Is this just shipping stress that caused this or was it something else?

This was one of a ten frag shipment. The other two turned completely white and died within days. This one turned white and died over roughly half of its body. Notice the base is encrusted and Half of it died as well. It has not receded any since then and appears to be at least holding its own and not receding any more. The parts that are alive are opening up as they should.

any input or recommendations?? I moved him around in the tank and he is now midway with medium-medium high flow.

How long ago did you get them? It doesn't look good.

I try to not move them and let them adapt to the tank untouched for several weeks. The stress of being new in your tank is much more than the stress of not being in an "optimal" location in that new tank. They need to acclimate to the tank first and foremost. This takes time, although I think the odds are against them if they recede that soon.

I always start new corals low in an area of good (indirect) flow if I don't know what conditions they came from. I let them sit there until I see new growth at the base and then move them to their final location. If I know where they came from light and current-wise, I put them in a similar area.

One thing you could try if you notice more slow recession is to add a bunch of superglue to the receding area. Cover it right up to the start of living tissue. Then tip the frag horizontally and mount it that way, heathy side up. If they aren't receding anymore, I'd leave them alone for awhile.

I got them 2 weeks ago...like i said of the three that did it...two of them died completely within 2 days and this one has not receded any more since. So this is the only coral(that picture is all of the same coral) that we are talking about.

Probably shipping stress superglue the bad area and let them sit for a couple weeks, they need to get use to your tank.

I have one of my newer acros doing the same thing. not sure what it is. you may want to frag the top good portion off while you still can.

2 days isn't very good at all. I'd have a word with the person you got them from - unless they were freebies.

Oh..all is well with the person i got them from. Im not ready to make any more orders right now with 2 tanks in the making. they simply credited a future order which I am totally satisfied with.

I just wondered if anyone had any specific feedback as to the symptoms.

I'd say they just didn't ship and/or acclimate well.
Pretty hard to guess anything more than that, since tissue loss is a pretty typical negative response to any number of things.

It actually has not receded AT ALL since the first 2 days. I have been monitoring it close enough that i know how many polyps down from the top the white starts...same with the encrusted base.

With that being said....should i still frag it or just let it be??

I WILL superglue the bad area as that has been mentioned more than once............but can anybody explain to me WHY. The only reason i can think of is to seal it off from algae and/or other stuff getting in there....is that it????? Or is there another reason??

it does that and also stops the white from starting up again sometimes.
