What is STN????

Hi folks,
I keep reading about STN and for the life of me, I have no idea what that is. Is there a picture of what it looks like? Thanks.

slow tissue necrosis. It's when a stony coral loses tissue slowly, as opposed to RTN, which is rapid tissue necrosis. Not much is known about why either happens, and there's not really a solution/cure.

And to add to what Chris said the only way to stop it is fragging off unaffected areas, and sometimes that does not even stop it....

IME you want to frag the coral well ahead of the tissue loss,.. as far ahead of it as possible, and if you can put it in another tank,.. that's what's yealded me the best luck of saving something.

STN AND RTN = corals are dying slowly or quickly and I can't find a reason why!

If I were you I would try to take the affected coral out of your aquarium and dip it with Revive or TMPCC to check for AEFW's. Especially if your water parameters have been in line for quite some time. Its always good to check to be sure. You can spend a lot of time chasing ghosts in your water parameters when the real reason is you have critters nibbling on your corals.
