What kind of lighting do you have on your tank? All corals will compete w/ each other and most can kill another. LPS can frequently sting and kill sps quite a distance away because many have sweeper tentacles that can reach out 3 or 4 inches (or more) at night. Also, some softies release toxins that are harmful to sps, but some can controlled through the use of carbon. All that said, you still might be able to put in some sps if there is enough space away from the others, but first tell us what lights and what current lps and softies you have, so we can make sure it is safe before making recommendations.

Most of the more common montipora's (capricornis and digitata) and bird's nests are pretty easy for sps. You still need a rock steady pH and clean water though.

+1 for the recommended species
-1 on the pH though.. pH is never rock steady, it fluctuates throughout the day

You will want steady levels of Calcium, Alk and Mag. as well as stable salinity. Also, you will want your nitrates to read really low, 0 is best, but really anything less than 5-10 would be ok.

phosphate... you need to have a 0 reading as well as no visible algae in your tank... if you have algae, you have excess phosphates. You need to skim wetter and possibly feed less or add more flow to more effectively get excess food into the sump where it can be taken out by the skimmer. as far as cal and alk go, you want to shoot for 8-10dKh alk and 38-440 calcium.

as far as magnesium, you want 1250-1350 ppm reading. Maintaining that level of mag will also help keep your alk and cal in equilibrium.
