BB is bare bottom. the regular nova extreme with no individual parabolic reflectors isnt enough light for an SPS tank.

well first off how do i know if its bare bottom?

and all the web site said(dr.fostersmith.com) about the light is this..........Brilliant high output T-5 fluorescent bulbs paired with the nocturnal glow of LED lunar lights. Two leading edge advances in lighting technology contained in a compact energy-efficient fixture for complete 24-hour lighting. Features microprocessor controlled internal electronic ballast, integrated cooling fans, parabolic reflector, and protective splash lens. Two separate power switches for primary lighting and 3 independent power cords enables the Nova Extreme T-5 Fixture to be automated. Simply plug the power cords into timers for custom light periods to suit the requirements of your aquarium inhabitants. Includes docking mounts and SlimPaq 460nm Actinic and 10000°K T-5 HO lamps. 14" x 2-1/2" high. Replacement tubes are available.

The 8 bulb fixture is 2 inches wider than the actual tank so they arent getting all that light. Watt/gallon isnt a good measurement. Without the individual reflectors i dont think you have enough light.

o i have sand i think 2" of it and the actual bulbs stop right befor the edge of the tank so it gets all that light just the metal from the light hangs over......my lps owner told me to buy it so i could keep sps so now that i have if its not enough light idk what ima do.

I think it would be enough light if the water had 0 turbidity, it was as close to the water as it could saftly be and there was extremely low PO4.

I think I would be more concerned with the skimmers ability (or lack of) to accomplished the above stated needs of the lights.

If you don't have a substrate your tank is BB.
