That Purple LEAN

I was just looking at my tank since i got the NEW frags and noticed that my tank IS PURPLE!! ALL the rocks that the lights are hitting are PURPLE with coralline algae. I know coralline is good but why do i have SOOO much. They dont even look like rocks anymore. It looks like sum1 just dipped each rock in purple paint. Is this good?? What could be causing this?? Too much Phosphates?? Considering im still using TAP (ok ok i know i need to get an ro/di).

That means your Calcium and Alkalinty is pretty stable... Any bare rock that goes in my tank is fully purple in just a few weeks

The coralline has little if not nothing to do with phosphates or other nutrients in the tank... it grows because the water chemistry is adequate and there is lighting available. If you want to support coral growth, coralline comes with the package.

Ok thanks.. Just wanted to be sure. Most tanks i see on the net arent SOOO purple.. Maybe there just not older tanks. Oh by the way TONY i was reading your tank thread and saw sum1 sayin "i need to pay uncle sam his money", then "you should be able to claim your cats and fish as dependants" and you said "we might as well they cost about just as much as a kid does these days" LOL. I was laughing my ***** OFF.. Its funny to me cuz im studyin to be an accountant and i work in my grandfathers accounting office. One day ill figure out how we can do that. I mean we might as well be able to claim them as dependants right? We feed them, care for them, do CRAZY and EXPENSIVE things for them just like a kid.. Why not.. Ill let you know when i figure out how to do it.

Tell me about it... I have a Shar-Pei... talk about upkeep!

The tank is running a close second to upkeep on the Shar-Pei
