Does this loook like a superman montipora to u guys (Tony).. This is an ebay aution and the store is near my house. I have wanted a superman for a longgg time but i saw this picture and i was a little skeptical that it even is a superman. It looks really blue.. Also maybe the polyps arent extended when he took the pic. Let me know guys cuz the bidding ends at 7pm friday (02-20-09). Thanks

One of the imposter's at that price... but it could turn out to be a nice piece for the money... basically, if it doesn't say Tyree in the name description, you know that you are getting an imposter... pretty simple as that. And even if it does have Tyree in front of it, you don't know that you're gonna get the real deal with tracing the proper lineage.

the first one is purple haze. the second looks like a new growth frag of pokerstar or rainbow. but either way, not superman.

While I understand what Tony is saying about coral naming if you are looking for a coral with blue background and red polyps = find one you like and pay what you think is appropriate, it's kinda how this coral game works anyway.
The first pic looks like it's taken under 20k's an touched up a bit.

ime monti color has more to do with the stability of the water quality and appropriate lighting than the lineage. fat tony will disagree, but all of the "le" corals were regular shippers to begin with.

no i won't disagree.. fact is that they were regular shippers. The difference is that you know what you are getting, a coral proven to hold color and give a specific look..
Either way, as Amy said... find the coral you like and pay what you feel is reasonable. The main issue with lineage is when you are selling coral for a LE price.

I have a rainbow monti that looked great as a young frag....That has now turned into a brown mess. I keep hoping it will bounce back but i dont know. Ive heard that imposter rainbows will do this. Same for supermans.

Cron that is definately a superman. Both are. It looks purplish cuz of the 20K lighting that the seller has it under... As for the second I see blue backround with dark red polyps again looks little dark cuz if the 20K lighting. Ive realized that dealers like to take pictures of corals under 20K lighting cuz the colors POP out more than with say a 10K. Look alittle closer. If it was a rainbow i think it would be better in the long run cuz rainbows are worth more than supermans and pokerstars are about the same. Anyways I ended up bidding on another frag of superman. Its small in size about an inch but i won it on ebay and the store is about 40miles from me so i wont have to pay the ridiculous shipping costs ill jusy go pick it up. Cant beat it for $18.25

you won't be able to tell what it really looks like until the polyps fully extend. When mine closes up like that the polyps do look red and the base a bright blue...

i thought it purple haze as well. but his frag shot under his lighting revealed some of the blue. if that base is purple, its not superman. its montipora mollis.
