sps tips help


hi all.

i hav this strange thing happening with my sps tips it looks like the tips are like melting or something that if i wipe with finger they come off what could b wrong

cal 420
mag 1250
nit0amon 0

salinity 1027 a bit high i know

pls help

sounds like mabe an alk burn is your kit right?

hi using a hagen test kit waiting for my salifert one to arrive. if it is alk burn how can i correct it and will the sps be okay all got full polyp extention and all

just make sure you dont add any more alk...I use salifert and it works good...do you use salifert on any other test?

i use salifert nitrate calcium and ph, had the kh but it was faulty. test kits not freely avail in south africa esp salifert. the hagen shows 8 and i cant understand why cause i added buffer yesterday and it was 8.

thanks for the advice . just dont wanna loose my precious sps. a question what can high magnesium levels do to sps my friends tank is on 1600

Im not really for sure on mag being that high I keep mine at 1300-1400!!

As long as the mag didnt go from 13 or 1400(or less) to the 1600 instantly due to dosing it.......a mag level of 1600 wont hurt a thing. In fact, many sps keepers keep it there intentionally

It could just be sliming...maybe from some sort of contact. Or it could be even extending the polyp out to catch food. Mine sometimes form wierd stringy things to catch more food.

Could still be Alk burn...but could also be normal behavior. I'd hate to see you take action w/out proper cause.

Besides....8 dKh isn't all that high. I normally keep mine around 10. Let us know when you get your Salifert test kits in, and what the correct results are.
