Rtn?

I just bought this frag yesterday. and it was acclimated over an hour with the lights off. I float acclimated for 25 min then dripped acclimated it for 45 minutes until only tank water was in the container. The temp didn't swing because it was all done in the sump. I got it from a store 20 min away from my house and transported it in Styrofoam. I kept the lights off for 5 hours then just put the blue LED's on.

This morning I woke up and this tissue was starting to recede. So I cut one branch off already. Any Idea what its doing?
I have an aqua illumination Nano for lighting- this morning I had the lights on 15% white, 45% blue, 45% violet. Since then I changed it to 5%white, and 5% blue. In hopes to reduce stress.

PH 8.1
Temp 78
Calc 560 ( i know its high)
ALK 10 DKH
Nitrates- 0
Phos- o
MAG- 2100 (high as well but slowing brining it down with weekly water changes)
SG- 1.0256
total water volume is 25 gal.

I do weekly 10% water changes

Chances are its from the mag being so high.
Are you dosing anything to get it that high ?

No the guy at the store dipped it and I watched him. I have pink birdsnest that I bought as well and a teal staghorn. the birdsnest is losing its tips but its very minimal.

I dont dose anything just water changes. I believe the MG is so high because i used the D-D ocean salt with MG. Then I switched to reef crystals a month ago. I have only tested MG for the first time this week.

Here is what the Birds of Paradise looks like this morning. Do you think I can save it or should I try to clip the good parts and re frag?

Thanks

not sure if im doing the MG test right. I have different instructions and different measurements for the test than the ones i find online. Mine says to use 2 ml of tank water, 5 drops of MG1, one spoon of MG 2 which is .05 ml, and 1ml of MG3.

Is this what you do?

yes but it says take the difference of the amount used from 1ml to get the result.

online shows a formula to use PPM MG= [1-(amount used from 1ml)] x 1500

it says im getting 2175 ppm of MG which after reading up on MG it allows super concentrations of calcium to build up before precipitation occurs. Hence my calcium at 560ppm with no cloudiness. So its got to be high. Im just double checking because I dont know how the MG could get that high. I havent dosed it and I used to dose KALK but I stopped but KALK is deficient in MG.

those "super" salts can pack a punch, I just use IO and keep my Ca around 390-400ppm..

Io = instant ocean and that's what I use as well.
Can't help you with the test kit I only use Seachem and now Hannah meters. But I'm not so sure I would trust those readings, salifert has had quality control issues in the past and just recently as well with calcium kits. I would either get new kits or have someone else test them.

I think the coral is just bleching. with RTN or STN there would be no polyps in the white areas. I blame your elevated mag, ca, and alk.

yeah I may get some IO then its cheaper and has less concentrations of everything. I'll mix it with reef crystals so i dont shock the corals again and then try to find the perfect blend of RC and IO when mixing to keep my CA and ALK levels within standards.
