Red bugs only on one frag?
I've got a Blue Yongei frag that's been in the tank for a few months. I tanked it before I started interceptor/FWE dips for new corals. At first it had great polyp extension and grew like mad. Then growth slowed, color faded, and polyp extension became nil. I had changed lights 3 times since so I figured it was that. Over the weekend I moved the piece down and to the front of the tank, thinking it may need less light. Well I noticed little tan particles on the frag. I removed the frag from the tank and my wife swears she saw them moving. So I am 70% sure it had red bugs, which I treated it for. Now for the life o me I cannot find a single RB on any other coral, including 3-4 I took out of the tank and went over with a magnifying glass. The other corals are doing well no RTN or loss of color, but polyp extension is on the low side(it usually is in my tanks). I have the interceptor bomb ready to go but I hesitate to use it because I have 3 shrimp I'll never get out, and I nice pod/brine shrimp population in my tank. I would hate to nuke them if I did not have to as I believe those little critters are an important part of my little ecosystem. My questions are:
Is there anything else I could easily mistake for RB's? They were so small I could not even get a nice pic.
If they are RB's what are the odds nothing else has them?
Thanks for your help!

If any one coral has them then your tank has them, however, if that one coral is the ONLY one you notice them on, i dont think just taking it out and giving JUST it a 6 hour interceptor bath would be a unreasonable thing to do. Then just monitor the rest of your corals and you could then hit the whole tank down the road if/when necessary. You should follow that link in my red bug post down a few.....it was an interesting read.

Looks for the red head on them if you have them on one coral, then you have them in the tank.

I had to just re-dose my tank last night for them.
How long does everyone wait before performing a second dosing? I did the first dosage 2 weeks ago and everything died, but then I re-discovered them.
I was able to get more pills from the vet (barely) and now theyre dead again, but how long should i wait until doing it again?
I have not seen a conclusive span given. The original treatment says 3 treatments, with the range between them being 24 hours up to 7 days!

7 days between treatments....not less......not more. The reason you got them bnack agin is that the eggs you didnt kill with the first treatment hatched and were allowed time to grow into adults.....or at least large enough to see........
You need to start over with the treatment y ou did last night counting as ONE.

Where did the 7 days unit come from? Eric B. suggest 5 days, and the guy who actually came up w/ the treatment does an even odder range.

Actually the directions i went by said you could do the third treatment 14 days apart as well as simply do the treatment much more frequently now that i just read it closer.........but the standard recommendation in it was 7-7-7
it worked for me.....just make sure to save any acrocrabs you may have first
the link is in the second post of this thread that i followed

I've read that treatment a couple times over; my point even referenced it.
The author of the treatment actually uses a regiment different than what is typically suggested. Then we have Eric B. who suggests things differently than the first (after conducting better research on these bugs than I've seen anyone else attempt).
My point was, how is the 5, or even the 7 day delay decided; Has anyone actually figured out their life cycle?

But their life cycle IS more so known than aefw's.....which is why we can beat the red bugs with not too much effort....in comparison anyway
