Question about flow

We're just starting to really get into SPS now and I'm having an issue with flow. How do you maintain a high flow without beating up your corals. It seems like most places I'm trying to place them they're getting too much flow and the polyps are not opening on that side. Am I missing something here?

Wavemakers and random pattern flow proper placement to bounce off of glass etc it took me a while to get my flow right.

definately wave timers wavemakers and some modifications to PH's etc will all help.
