Purple Montipora with White Spots

I have had this guy now for 8 months and every so ofter=n he gets a new white area on him. When I first had him he was being stung from my Favia so I moved him that why the back side of him has some blotchy white area. Could I have Nudis If I still get good growth? Would the nudis make the coral look progressively worse? I have 2 150 watt metal halide bulbs and he is about 14 inches under the one. Its a 46 gallon and all paramstest good. Any ideas as to little new white spots

Welcome to TRT! I've never had nudis before but from what I understand, the patches you have could be caused by them. They are supposed to be very difficult to see. Any posibility of doing an iodine dip?

certainly could be nudis... does the color come back to those spots in a couple days, or is the tissue gone and takes a little while to regrow?

To me, it kinda looks like it's being stung...or bleached.

Just wanted to start by saying nice monti, it sound's like some sorta nudibranch try looking at night with a flashlight to see for any sort of predator's if none are seen. Then remove to a quarantine tank and maybe try to get a dip in and wait a week or 2 then repeat so if any eggs were laid the babies will be killed then put in display in about 6 weeks. good luck

Pretty indicative of monti eating nudi's. I would remove the coral asap and take action to include a dip in revive or TMPCC. Then swish it in fresh SW and/or blow it off with a powerhead. Then move it to quarantine and observe for 2-3 weeks. The problem is that nudi's are a pain and nothing I'm aware of will kill the eggs. So repeated dips are usually required. Some people even suggest fragging a unaffected portion and movin it to a second quarrentine tank since often times the larger colony is doomed.

If you have any other montis in the tank, they too may need to be moved to quarantine.

Oh and there is some other options, but search around the net because I'm not certain on their effectiveness.

the only thing that will kill the eggs is Potassium Permanganate...or so says Borneman. I bought some, but just have not tried it. Nudis are a serious pain in the butt. Add a couple small Wrasses to your tank while treating the Monti (and I would treat the others as well in TMPCC) and QT'ing the Purple Danae (Idaho Grape more than likely)
