polyp extention

Is it normal for some acro to only hap PE at night, the new aquaculture I have has wonderful PE but only after the lights go out, once they come back on it pulls them back in, is this anything out of the normal for some????

Well I do know that at the LFS it was under 2 x 250 watt MH, mine are 2 x 150 watt MH with 4 x 65watt pc - 2 10k and 2 actinics.

Flow has a lot to do with it as well as your inhabitants. Corals that get nipped at tend to keep their polyps retracted. Also how are your parameters? If they are out of balance or you have high nitrates this could compound the situation. Some acros have very little PE in the daytime and others like a.millepora, a.prostrata, a.tenuis, etc. generally have a lot of PE in the daytime. What kind of acro is it? I you aren't sure, maybe you could post a picture.

I'm not sure what kind it is, I would like to know but all I know is its aquacutured and its nice looking, here is a couple of pics of it, it does get some PE now during the day but still not as much as it gets at night.

It could be a tenius. Hard to tell from the photo! Generally the tips are more blue with enoughp light. They seem to demand zero nitrates and I have rarely seen a large one !

did your lfs had them under 250 watts mh 14k? i bought an acro from my lfs that was in mh 14k and i had 250 watts mh 10k which the acro PE was not fully out and the color was not the same so i ask my lfs and they told me to put the acro at the bottom so it can get use to the light change but concerning the color they told me 10k will help with growth but not with the color...so just see if thats the case with yours.

My acros tend to have their polyps MORE extended at night than during the daytime. Not really certain as to why. My water parameters check out with the exception of Mg being too dang low (IM ON IT!)
