I can agree with that.. It sure looks like an Elkhorn Acro though... I guess that's why they named that species of Monti Elkhorn...

If I remember mine correctly, the branches would get plates forming on each side as it grew, does yours get that growth?

Yes, the tips get flat and kind of fan out in some spots. But the branches are kind of thin. Even in a high flow area.

The Acro looked thicker in all the pics I have seen. Was it popular before the ban?

not sure, but I would like to get a piece for a caribbean artificial reef biotope for the local science centers tank that i volunteer at. I'm going to try to get a few different gorgs and such as well. I know that there are people actually frag cloning for transplantation of the coral 9stag and elk) in the carinbbean region. I believe that the group is part of the NOAA, I wonder, with the system being a hgher education cent if they would be able to get a piece and grow it out... it would be interesting.

You can take a sharp knife, or a scalpel, and cut the shrooms away from the rock and remove them while everything is still in the tank. A new shroom will grow back there later, but it will take it some time to do so. I have had to do this plenty of times as well.

I just came back from IMAC West were one of the speakers gave a really interesting speech about cultering Acropora Palmata. The way he made it sound the coral is very difficult to transport also.

I would agree with elkhorn as well

If it isnt, then the coral I have that was given to me as an elkhorn isnt either.

If you give it lots of flow, it will grow not so long and skinny

I have it right in front of a K3. So it gets blasted with flow. I think thats just the way it grows.

This is what I have for flow in my 36" 65 gallon. I have a Vortech MP20 on the right side at 100% either Reef Crest or Lagoon Random ( I switch it every once in a while). And I have a K3 on the left side. And I have a Rio 3100 as my return pump at about 700gph after head loss.

MP20=2000gph
K3=850gph
So thats 2850gph without the return pump. 2850/65= 43.84 x turn over. Not counting my return pump. Is that sufficient?

I have been considering getting either the MP40 upgrade kit or just buying an MP40, but the upgrade kit is more realistic right now for me. Or maybe another MP20.
