Checked Levels

I just checked me levels tonight and wanted to know if they were OK.

Alkalinity: 8 dkh
Calcium: 460 ppm

Im an not dosing anything yet.. I am just doing 25% water changes every 2 weeks with Reef Crystals. I dont have much in my tank in the way of corals yet. I am asking becuase my Alk. used to be around 10 dkh. Are my levels OK? Should i start dosing soon? I bought DTs 1 2 3 system a while back and started dosing before i got test kits. That was a mistake because when i finally got a test kits my Cal. was 560 ppm and Alk. 11 dkh.

Seems fine to me... I used to try for about 9dkh and 420ca, I have since been happy with 7dkh and 400-420 ca.

Alkalinity between 7dkh and 10 is acceptable. I prefer to keep mine closer to 10 but the main thing is to keep it consistant over time. Stability is the key to success. The reason I don't prefer 7dkh is much lower than that and you can have issues. If you keep it a little higher than you have a little fudge factor just in case.
