anybody seen anything like this before??

Polyp extension is fine on the coral....it has died in a perfect ring directly around the base............the reason you cant see any PE is i just moved it to get a pic and ticked it off........

i just noticed it so i dont know if this was a slow thing or a immediate thing.....i will be monitoring and whacking it if it spreads at all as this is a 6" stag

??

anybody??

the only thing that is weird in the tank parameterwise is my alkalinity was high last week....still getting used to how to keep this BB tank in check....no other corals are showing any signs of anything similar

If it gets worse cant you frag it so you have the base plus the new stalk or will that take out the base? I have never seen anything fade in the middle like that.

yes keep a close eye on it. the stress like casey said may have casued it to expell the Zoox. that is not good. but it can recover over time

while you think of it a ring around the base...that's actually the beginning of the part where the coral meets the rock. I agree that it's stress related, but also could be the beginning of a wicking problem. just a thought.

i am gonna agree with skeety here. there was a thread on this not so long ago in the BB forum. Spanky thought it was a phosphate problem within the rock. was the coral on the rock when you got it? if it was, i would frag the frag and ditch the rock.

lol...it was the SAME coral in that other thread you are talking about....i didnt have any responses here, so i posted it again there........

I already fragged it up the day after this post....... : (

everything below the first cut died, encrusted parts and all......all the frags from above are doing fine. Funny thing is that the rock in question was a piece that i at one time tossed into my flowergarden.........lol

i was hurting for rubble to glue stuff to so i brought it back from the dead. There are 3 other pieces of the same rock with happy healthy corals on them

Oh well........thats the way it goes i guess....
