UV sterilizer? They are over rated and typically set up wrong to get the biggest benefit out of them. For a beginning tank, no, don't use one. Before you decide you want one, find out what they do, what they won't do, how they work, and then you will be able to decide whether you want/need one or not.

Whether a 40G sump is enough or not depends on what you plan to put in it. That sounds evasive but its not. But it should be plenty.

well in the center chamber i want to put atleast 10 or 15 pounds of liverock, im gonna install flourescents in it and im might use it as a xenia farm. im still undecided bout the sterilizer, im definetly gonna research it some more and make my decision on it.

Live Rock in the relatively slow flow in a sump will simply become a place for "poo" to get trapped and turn the rocks into nitrate factories.

Water parameters? And, has anything died in the tank in the last few days? The "weird kinda like covering" on the sun coral is a warning sign though, something isn't right in the tank.

One other thought, since it all seems to have started around the water change. Was the salinity and temp of the new water the same as the tank water? If they are off, you could have pissed them off or irritated them enough to cause them to turn clear.

I also wouldnt bother with a UV right off the bat, and regarding the zoas I'd check for some pests. How long have you had them, and are there any recent additions?

well the nothing is dead in the tank. the water temp was only 2 degrees warmer than my tank water and it was the same salinity. and yes the zoas are recent additions. only about 3-4 days in the tank. the only new additions were 3 turbos, 2 clowns, a feather duster, and the sun coral.

i have also decided against the stereilizer.
